Mnemonic Devices and Creativity
Since Mnemonics is the study and technique of helping individuals learn and remember things, then those techniques can be geared specifically to that individual, using visual methods, acronyms, and or rhymes. For example we use visual memory aids all the time and as a customer, companies love this, because we use this technique to remember and differentiate them from other competitors, and then we in turn associate that visual with the product or service they provide. When we see an apple we associate that with the electronic devices made by the Apple Company. A rhyming example could be, “I before E except after C” from English class, when studying for our spelling tests. For an acronym, I’m sure you remember “ROYGBIV”which represents the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). Another way to remember information you need to commit to memory is to make up a story that use or connects all the items or facts you need to remember, which will in turn make them easier to recall. This “story telling” method can use used with most any information, from mathematical order of calculations to even re-telling a story that you had read for English class.
All of the above methods can be adjusted to any learning ability level, because they can be individualized very easily to what specifically that
person is interested in, so that the material can be put to memory, so that is could be recalled during assessment.
